SABGA: COMMITTED TO THE MEDIA
Minister of Public Administration and Communications, the Honourable Maxie Cuffie expressed condolences on the passing of Anthony Norman Sabga, Doctor of Laws (honoris causa), O.R.T.T on Wednesday 3 May 2017. In extending his sympathies to the Sabga and Ansa McAl families, Minister Cuffie praised Dr. Sabga for his legendary business acumen, and opined that the country had lost one of its first and truest entrepreneurs.
Minister Cuffie described Dr. Sabga as “committed to the media business” having made significant investments and ensured that the Guardian Newspaper was always at the forefront of technology and presided over its expansion into a media conglomerate.
“While he held unique perspectives on the boundaries of press freedom, Dr. Sabga always remained very personable and committed to the developing media generally and the Guardian in particular,” stated Minister Cuffie.
He concluded by noting that Dr. Sabga was a recognized entrepreneur who was noted for his business acumen and made a significant contribution to the development of commercial and industrial life in this country and the region.
The fact that he rose from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of business success is credit to Trinidad and Tobago and a demonstration of what is possible to those who have the will and determination to succeed.
